Your transformation to wholeness starts at Hub and Spokes when you meet with one of our qualified counselors. They will enable you to confront life’s challenges from a new and healthy perspective.

Counseling sessions are typically scheduled on a weekly basis. We provide services in English, Cantonese or Mandarin. The total number of sessions will vary depending on your needs. It is a cooperative growth process that focuses on mental, emotional, and behavioral transformation that involves both you and your counselor working together.

  • Individual Counseling

Here clients work one-on-one with a trained mental health professional focused on the individual’s needs in a safe, caring and confidential environment. Individual counseling is helpful for a variety of reasons, such as increasing one’s self-awareness, encouraging self-exploration, identifying boundaries, enhancing communication skills and improving the use of healthy coping skills. We can also address your unique needs in this space, since we recognize every person has their own personal journey towards wholeness and healing.

The type of theories and modalities used by each counselor varies. You may read more about each team members’ methods of practice in their bios, or contact us for more information. We also provide a brief description of various approaches below.

  • Couples Counseling

Intimate relationships are hard. But they’re also the most rewarding investment you can make. Couples counseling is for you and your partner if you find yourselves stuck in the same patterns that leave you feeling tired and disconnected. If there are certain things that are hard to talk about without fighting, or if you are dealing with infidelity, grief, change in life stage, and other tough issues. If you want to learn new ways of communicating that promote true listening and understanding, this is a great place to get started.

Our counselors are professionally trained in working with couples using an attachment-based and emotionally-focused approach. We will help you identify the roadblocks that are hindering effective communication, provide a safe space and the tools for each partner to express their underlying feelings and core needs. Ultimately, we want to see your relationship reach its full potential and be the safe harbor it is meant to be.

  • Family Counseling

We all start this life with a family, whether our family is composed of blood relatives, adopted parents, or a close-knit community. Our families and our experiences in childhood influence every aspect of our lives, from our first moments to our last. Together we learn our vocabulary, our habits, our customs and rituals, and how to view and observe the world around us. We also learn how to love and interact with others from these first vital relationships.

In family counseling, the family is the client. We want to work collaboratively to build healthy dynamics that carry through a lifetime. This may include overcoming obstacles together, meeting individually with a counsellor for child or teen therapy, processing traumatic experiences, and overall strengthening the family system. Using a balance of education, play and compassion, our family counsellors want to help your closest relationships heal and grow.

Our services go above and beyond traditional care because our clinical team utilizes evidence-based treatments. A brief intro to some of these treatment Models include:

  • CBT helps people learn how to identify and change destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on behavior and emotions. It focuses on challenging and changing cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems.

  • EFCT and EFIT focus on emotion and emotional regulation as the key organizing agents in individual experience and key relationship interactions. It is tested and proven in couple intervention, but it is also used to address individual depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress.

  • IFS is a powerfully transformative, integrative model of psychotherapy. This model believes the mind is naturally multiple and aims to heal wounded parts to restore mental balance. It understands our inner parts contain valuable qualities and our core self knows how to heal, allowing us to become integrated and whole.

  • EMDR is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. It focuses directly on the disturbing memory, and is intended to change the way that memory is stored in the brain, thus reducing and eliminating the problematic symptoms.

  • include somatic and attachment-informed practices, narrative, family systems approaches, and more. Attachment theory views human beings as innately relational, social and wired for intimate bonding with others from birth. Somatic psychotherapy incorporates a person’s mind, body, spirit, and emotions into the healing process.
