Before moving to Hong Kong, Emily worked with various NGOs focused on combating human trafficking worldwide and healing those wounded by exploitation. After working in the non-profit sector, she went on to counsel at a private practice called Richland Oaks Counseling Center in Texas. There she spent time with a variety of clients from diverse backgrounds, working through issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, sex addiction, shame and identity, relationship unhappiness, and mood disorders.

Emily continues to focus on helping clients learn to healthily process overwhelming emotions, especially those with adverse experiences. Emily’s counseling process combines an interpersonal, emotions-focused approach influenced by attachment theory. She has been trained in both Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapies, as well as child-centered play therapy. She has also trained specifically in the area of complicated grief, helping clients work through various forms of loss, and using Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) to integrate these experiences back into the narrative of their lives.

Her passion is to help people heal internal wounds and find freedom from painful and uncomfortable experiences. Her goal is to develop individualized treatment plans that meet each client’s unique needs and helps them grow healthy relationships throughout a lifetime.

Sometimes, our wounds are deeper than the surface of our skin.
